Data licensing
The government files we build on are public domain. Our resolved output is not the same thing as those files, and is licensed separately. This page explains the line between the two.
Two different things

If all you need is the raw file, take it from the agency — we would rather you did, and every dataset page links the official source. What we license is the resolution work: the linking rules, the family groupings, the role separation, the confidence classification and the vintage discipline.
What is available
Resolved extracts are available for the datasets below where the source permits redistribution.

- HCRIS Cost Reports
- U.S. Census Bureau: geography, demographics and business patterns
- Bureau of Labor Statistics: employment and wages
- Bureau of Economic Analysis: regional accounts
Standard terms
- Attribution. Published use must attribute TechStack Data and state the edition of the extract.
- No re-licensing. Extracts may be used inside your product or research. They may not be resold as a dataset.
- Evidence classes travel. Where you display a value, its class and as-of date must be available to your reader. Stripping provenance is the one thing we will not license.
- Not for FCRA purposes. No extract may be used for employment, credentialing, insurance, tenancy or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- No warranty of filer accuracy. We warrant that an extract reflects the source files at the stated edition. We do not warrant that the filers were accurate.
Newsroom and academic use
Extracts we already hold are provided at no charge for newsroom and academic use, subject to attribution. Tell us the question, the geography and the period.
